Straw Hat and the Badical Extremes

That's right, boys and girls. Your favorite web site now has its VERY OWN BAND!! No, not gothicsluts.com. I'm talking about Badical Extreme. This Easter Sunday will go down as the greatest Easter in recent memory, because this Easter Sunday witnessed the birth... of Straw Hat and the Badical Extremes. Mike, Casey and I have started this band to further express our creativity. Our music is an eclectic mix of comedy, folk rock, and world music. We may not have fancy equipment, high-paying gigs, or hot groupies yet, and we might not have all that much talent, but we've got spirit. And baby, we're riding this escalator all the way to the top. Without further ado, I give you the Straw Hat and the Badical Extremes line-up:

Andy

Guitar in hand, Andy's sweet crooning voice and musical virtuosity are unparalleled. Armed with 5 or 6 chords, little knowledge of progressions, and a lot of heart, this brilliant lyricist likes to rock and roll all night and party well into the day. Little known fact: Andy was actually trained as a classical pianist! Too bad some of that skill he once possessed on the piano hasn't really carried over to the guitar... but fortunately, his wild, impromptu jamming and spontaneous lyrics more than make up for his technical shortcomings.

Raised in the mountains by hippies, Casey brings a welcome ethnic touch to Straw Hat and the Badical Extremes. A master of the didgeridoo, his reverberating stylings make the ladies swoon. His boyish good looks don't hurt either! Casey's contibution to the band goes even further than just talent, though... in fact, he actually owns all the instruments the band plays!

Casey

Mike

Poor, poor Mike. We don't actually have a drum, so he has to play a trash can. We're working on saving up enough money to buy him a real drum... but we can't do it alone. Hopefully, enough kind-hearted people will donate money to our cause, and our collection of instruments will be complete. Anyway, Mike is a former oboe player, and also has a certain amount of experience with percussion. His groovy beats keep the band bumping until the break of day. Not bad for a guy who is best known for quitting the music major!

The straw hat provides the group's namesake. It's a good hat. It just sits there, and doesn't do much, but we figured we'd give it top billing. None of us ever wear the hat while we play; it's stricly for collecting money.

Straw Hat

Those are the members of Straw Hat and the Badical Extremes. We played two sets on Easter Sunday; one in the afternoon, and another later in the evening after Mike and I went to church. I played in my church clothes! It was good fun. Not many people had moved back into the dorms yet, but a few people saw us. We made a couple of dollars in change, and some guy gave us free pizza! We sang all our hit songs, like "Ham Sandwich," "Moving Day," and "Didgeridoo (I love you)". Finally, somebody gave us a dollar to stop playing, so we packed up our instruments for the evening. We're going to play every weekend until we have a loyal following. Remember, you heard it here first!
